Monogram Coaster letterpress invitation

These neat invitations were designed by Tim Adams of Live Creative in NSW. They are for a surprise wedding celebration. (OK 2 ideas that I wish I had come up with!!) The design is simple and very modern which I love.  They are printed onto our round coaster stock double sided and accompanied by a Kraft envelope.
I printed some just with the couple's monogram on one side to use as coasters on the day, and they were a perfect match to our 'Eat drink and be married' coasters Available HERE).

I did it my way - save the date wedding invitation

I Must confess, if I were to have a wedding right now, this is how I would celebrate! It's just delicious! A crisp blue and neon pink colour scheme with the bright pink envelope and custom printed dotty envelope liner are a match made in heaven. I think its feminine but strong and masculine at the same time! The typeface gives it strength as well as the deep blue, but the pink and spots soften the structure and create a real party theme.

DESIGN TO POLYMER PLATES

The second installment of our 'how to letterpress' series (If you missed the first episode 'Mixing Ink', click HERE)
There are many considerations when designing for letterpress (for a detailed run down go HERE)

Since the polymer plates are quite an expense, I try to consider using my designs in several ways. Can the polymer plates be used as as a coaster, a card, gift tags, invitation etc? This gives me the opportunity to expand my range and re-use the plates over and over.
Once I have finalized a design on my computer, I email the file off site to have negatives or film made. Polymer plates are made from the negatives or film. Making the plates involves light, exposure, chemicals, wash off etc. Kind of - but not quite - like developing photographic film - old school!

A little late for Valentines but hey,...

 

I ran out of Tympan paper prior to this job. Many printers say they used plain paper so that's what I did. 

Found out that for me, isn't the best. 

When you miss feed and the ink gets on your packing sheets (or where a top layer sheet called a tympan should be) you have to stop and wipe it off and coat with baby powder to dry the ink and then you can continue; otherwise the back of the next card you print absorbs the ink from your miss print.

Anyway, plain brown paper seems to suck in the ink and not allow you to wipe it off very well so when I miss fed and cleaned dusted and carried on, it wasn't actually cleaned enough and around 50% of my prints were unusable because of the backsides being shadow printed Arrrrrgh! Cant source Tympan in Australia. Will try and find something called mylar or even thick tracing paper.
